HIGHLIGHTS

  • West Indies need 35 runs to win 1st Test against Bangladesh
  • Kemar Roach took a 5-wicket haul in Bangladesh’s 2nd innings
  • Captain Kraigg Brathwaite fell eight runs short of his hundred

Bangladesh head coach Russell Domingo on Sunday said that the team is low on confidence after the batters’ poor outing in the first Test against West Indies in North Sound.

The visiting Bangladesh side led by Shakib Al Hasan was bundled out for 103 in their first innings. In reply, Kraigg Brathwaite’s West Indies posted 265. Bangladesh then folded for 245 in the second innings after Kemar Roach took a five-wicket haul. The hosts West Indies required only 35 runs at stumps on Day 3.

Asked about Bangladesh batters’ performance, Domingo was quoted as saying: “Batters are all low on confidence at the moment. Some of the big players Mominul (Haque), (Najmul Hossain) Shanto are low in confidence. In cricket, confidence is a big thing and at the moment they just don’t have that confidence in their batting.”

“It’s not good. In both innings too many soft dismissals and too many poor decisions with the batting and 103 runs in the first innings….could have gotten more than that and 245 in the second innings could have gotten more than that so it’s the bottom line. Too many soft dismissals in this particular Test match,” Domingo told reporters after the third day’s play.”

Shakib’s fifty was the only notable performance in Bangladesh’s first innings. The visitors put up an improved show in their second innings, with Shakib and Nurul Hasan scoring 60-plus runs each. Meanwhile, Brathwaite fell eight runs short of his hundred as Khaled Ahmed trapped him in front.
