Cold wave continues to wreak havoc in Udham Singh Nagar and Haridwar. There is no hope of getting rid of it soon. Because, the Meteorological Department has issued an Orange Alert of Sheetlahar in both the districts for the next 48 hours. According to Bikram Singh, director of the Meteorological Center, there is a possibility of fog in Udhamsinghnagar and Haridwar districts along with severe cold.

In such a situation, the government and the district administration have been requested that along with making adequate arrangements for night shelters in both the districts, maximum number of bonfires should be lit. Along with this, people have been appealed not to stay outside in the cold for a long time. In Pantnagar of Udhamsinghnagar, where the maximum temperature fell to 11.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, which was eight degrees below normal.

At the same time, the maximum temperature in Roorkee of Haridwar was 12 degrees. People in these cities are facing severe cold wave due to drop in day maximum temperature. Whereas, on Monday night the minimum temperature was 5.2 degree Celsius in Pantnagar and 7.5 degree Celsius in Roorkee.

Mercury reached zero in Chakrata

In Chakrata, the maximum temperature was 11 and the minimum was zero degree Celsius on Tuesday. Due to this people had to face extreme cold.

Cloudy in Doon, possibility of fog
There is a possibility of light fog in the capital Doon on Wednesday with partly cloudy sky. The maximum temperature in the capital and surrounding areas is likely to be around 23 degrees and the minimum around six degrees.

All schools of Haridwar will be closed today and tomorrow
Due to severe cold, In-charge District Magistrate and Chief Development Officer Prateek Jain has declared holiday on Wednesday and Thursday in all government and non-government schools, Anganwadi and Mini Anganwadi centers from class one to 12. He said that on the proposal of Chief Education Officer KK Gupta, the timings of the schools were also changed on 30 and 31 December. The schools will operate from 10 am to 3:30 pm. Till now the schools were starting at 9:30 am.
