Spotify Is Desperate. It’s Now Forcing You To Pay To Hear Same Songs On Repeat – News18

There’s no denying that Spotify has been trying to make users pay up for new features but nothing has worked, at least in India.

There’s a new limit on Spotify as to how many times you can play the same song in a day before you get a message “Choose songs to play again tomorrow”.

Spotify seems to have become desperate to convert more users into paying customers as it is now forcing users to pay to hear songs on repeat. In other words, if you want to listen to the same song on repeat, you will have to pay. There’s a new limit as to how many times you can play the same song in a day before you get a message “Choose songs to play again tomorrow”.

Not just that, you can’t skip playing ads by simply closing the app and restarting it again and the worst is that you need to even now pay to see the lyrics of a song you like. Not to forget, you can’t restart playing a song while it’s playing by clicking the rewind button. In fact, the rewind button no longer exists for free users.

For Spotify users, if you don’t intend to pay, it has suddenly become the worst app for music, in terms of experience. The developers have ensured that they force users to get a subscription for doing the bare minimum that you would expect from any music platform. And if it comes to paying, there are two sets of users: someone who already has paid for Spotify premium and the rest who think getting Apple Music or even Youtube Premium as a better deal.

For Spotify users, if you don’t intend to pay, it has suddenly become the worst app for music, in terms of experience.

According to a report, Spotify is “only testing” these new features to make more users pay. Spotify’s co-head of global communications CJ Stanley was quoted in the report, ““At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests, some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning… In keeping with our standard practices, we’re currently testing this with a limited number of users in a pair of markets.”

As far as “markets” are concerned, the new restrictions are now live in India as well and you would be forced to pay to see lyrics and play songs on repeat.

There’s no denying that Spotify has been trying to make users pay up for new features but nothing has worked, at least in India. Podcasts and audiobooks on Spotify haven’t really helped the cause and it is now looking at limiting bare minimum user experience to squeeze some from regular users.
