Anti-Narcotics Cell, Worli Unit of Mumbai Crime Branch has busted a big drug racket. After a raid on a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit at Nalasopara in Palghar district, more than 700 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 1,400 crore has been seized and five people have been arrested in this connection. Giving information on Thursday, an official said that the Anti-Drug Cell (ANC) of Mumbai Crime Branch raided the unit.

This action was taken on the basis of specific information, he said. An ANC team raided the premises and during that time it came to light that the banned drug Mephedrone was manufactured there. Four accused have been arrested from Mumbai, while one person was nabbed in Nalasopara, the official said. He told that this is one of the biggest seizure of narcotics by the city police in recent times. Mephedrone is also known as ‘meow meow’ or MD. It is banned under the National Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Heroine worth Rs 362 crore seized in Navi Mumbai

Earlier, on July 15, the crime branch team of Navi Mumbai had busted the network of another big racket. Heroin worth crores was seized by Navi Mumbai Crime Branch. The value of this heroin in the international market was estimated at 362.5 crores. This container carrying a consignment of drugs was brought from Dubai to Navi Mumbai’s Nhavasheva Port. The crime branch had got secret information that this container belongs to Ajiwali village near Panvel of Navkar Logistics. The crime branch team had revealed that the consignment of heroin recovered was a part of the supply chain of an international drug racket network. Not only are people connected in many areas of the country with the network of this entire racket, but this racket is also spread in other countries of the world.

The crime branch swung into action as soon as the tip of bringing drugs in the name of marble was received. First the marbles were unloaded from the container. Then a closer look at the door frame of the container led to suspicion of drugs being hidden in the frame. After this, with the help of a cutter machine, a large consignment of drugs, which was cut into the frame of the door of the container, was recovered.
