Jharkhand: Undertrial prisoner commits suicide by jumping off roof in Chaibasa jail, has already tried to escape

A 30-year-old undertrial prisoner lodged in the Chaibasa Divisional Jail in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum district died on Friday after jumping off the roof of the jail. This information was given by an officer. The prisoner named Murali Laguri was in jail for the past several months in a murder case registered at Tonto police station, the official said.

It is said that the prisoner Murali had tried to escape from the jail for the first time. Taking the opportunity on Friday, Murali Laguri went to the terrace and jumped from there. He suffered serious injuries after the fall, police said, adding that he was immediately rushed to the Sadar Hospital but doctors declared him brought dead.

Confirming the incident, Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal said that a medical team has been formed for the post-mortem of the dead undertrial prisoner. Further investigation is on.
