Shimla14 hours ago

The tradition of changing the government once again continued in Himachal Pradesh. Congress crossed the majority mark of 35 by winning 40 out of 68 seats in the state. At the same time, the BJP, which gave the slogan of changing the custom, got reduced from 44 to 25 seats. It lost 19 seats. Independents won 3 seats. Anti-incumbency, performance, ticket distribution or rebellion of loved ones.

Let’s know in 10 points, due to which reasons BJP could not save power…

1. People’s resentment and record voting
There was a record 76% voting in Himachal in the 2022 elections. This was the record till date. However, in the last 37 years, whether the vote percentage increased or decreased in Himachal, the ruling party has lost the government. This time government employees and apple farmers were angry with the government. As a result, BJP got 6% less votes this time than in the last election.

Out of this, 2% votes were shifted to the Congress account, while the remaining 4% went to independents and the Aam Aadmi Party. The Congress gained 19 seats from this. Like last time, this time also independents managed to win 3 seats. At the same time, the Aam Aadmi Party, which entered the fray for the first time, also managed to get 1.1% votes.

2. Ignoring Prem Kumar Dhumal proved costly
In Hamirpur, the home district of Union Minister Anurag Thakur and former Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal, the BJP got swept away. Congress and 1 independent won 4 out of 5 seats here. This time Dhumal himself did not contest the election. The Dhumal camp remained quiet throughout the election because Nadda and CM Jairam Thakur sidelined the people of the Dhumal camp during the last 5 years.

Though Anurag Thakur held meetings in Hamirpur parliamentary constituency, Dhumal himself was not particularly active. There were discussions that even the Dhumal camp internally did not want the party to win the elections this time.

3. BJP’s bet of cutting tickets backfired
The BJP had already sensed the displeasure of the people towards its sitting MLAs before the elections, but failed to come up with a strategy to deal with it. The 10 sitting MLAs whose tickets were cut, rebelled on their own. Tickets were given to many such MLAs who were opposed. Even these people could not win. Minister Mahendra Singh Thakur, who has made a record of winning 7 consecutive elections from Dharampur seat, was given ticket to his son Rajat Thakur, but he also lost.

4. 21 rebels of BJP overpowered
After ticket distribution, there was a rebellion in the BJP in 21 out of 68 seats in the state. In Kinnaur, former MLA Tejwant Negi contested as an independent after not getting ticket and BJP lost there. Hoshiar Singh, who contested as an independent on Dehra seat also won for the second time in a row. Before the elections, the BJP had inducted Hoshiyar Singh into the party, but did not give him a ticket.

After this he left the BJP and contested the elections. Minister Rakesh Pathania lost the Fatehpur seat due to the rebellion of party vice-president Kripal Parmar. In Kullu and Manali seats also, BJP rebels played an important role in the defeat of party candidates. BJP rebel KL Thakur as an independent won the Nalagarh seat. The BJP was defeated by the Congress because of Indira Kapoor, who rebelled by first giving ticket to Chamba Sadar seat and then withdrawing it.

5. It was expensive to give tickets to ministers again
This time 8 out of 10 ministers of the BJP government lost the elections. Suresh Bhardwaj, Ramlal Markanda, Virendra Kanwar, Govind Singh Thakur, Rakesh Pathania, Dr. Rajiv Saizal, Sarveen Chowdhary, Rajendra Garg were among the ministers who lost the election. Apart from CM Jairam Thakur, only Bikram Thakur and Sukhram Chowdhary were able to win the election.

In fact, there was a lot of resentment among the people regarding Jairam’s ministers. People complained that it was very difficult to reach these ministers. These ministers did not even get their important work done. On the work front too, the performance of these ministers was very poor. Even after the survey conducted before the elections, it was a wrong decision to field many ministers.

6. BJP’s silence on old pension scheme There are a total of 2.5 lakh employees in Himachal, which means at least one person from every second household is in a government job. Being an employee dominant state, it is also said that the party against which the employees are thrown out of the government. All the employees of Himachal were agitating for the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) for the last two-three years, but the ruling BJP never spoke openly on this issue. On the other hand, after coming to power, the Congress gave a guarantee to implement OPS in the very first cabinet. He got the benefit of this.

7. Displeasure of apple growers with BJP
During the Jairam Thakur government’s tenure, apple growers were angry with the BJP for imposing GST on goods related to apple packing. There are 24 assembly constituencies of Himachal, where the livelihood of most of the families depends on apple farming. In these 14 assembly constituencies, 80 percent of the families are completely dependent on apples. He also did a long movement for this, but the government did not listen.

The BJP suffered a crushing defeat in Upper Himachal and Apple Belt. He was in bad condition in Shimla, Kullu, Lahul-Spiti and Kinnaur. The Congress won in the tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. The BJP’s sweep has been cleared in Solan. Congress got 5 out of 8 seats in Shimla district also.

8. Congress’s promise – 1500 rupees to every woman
The Congress guaranteed Rs 1,500 per month to every woman above 18 years of age in the state. Although this promise was also made by the Aam Aadmi Party, but it left the field before the elections. Because of this women voted in favor of Congress. This time in Himachal, the voting percentage of women was 6 percent more than that of men.

9. Promise of five lakh jobs
Himachal is called the state of employees, while the Jairam-led BJP government has failed to provide jobs in the last 5 years. Jairam Thakur was continuously in the dock regarding the appointments made during his tenure. The Congress party sensed this issue ahead of time. Priyanka Gandhi promised in every meeting and rally that a decision would be taken to give 1 lakh jobs in the very first cabinet after the formation of the Congress party government. Means Congress promised to provide 5 lakh jobs in 5 years.

10. Loss from Agniveer scheme as well
A large number of youths from Himachal go to the army. The central government implemented the Agniveer scheme for army recruitment, due to which there was a lot of resentment in Himachal. Priyanka Gandhi, who took command of the campaign on behalf of the Congress, openly opposed it in every rally and even said that this scheme will be closed if the Congress government is formed at the Center. However, the Congress directly benefited because people were angry with the BJP.

Now it’s time to form government…
