Microsoft and Samsung launched their phones in 2019

The popular devices were launched in 2019 and got their promised set of updates and now the support has ended.

Samsung and Microsoft users were informed this week that a couple of their popular devices will not be getting software updates anymore. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Note 10+ which launched in 2019 have finally got their final updates from the company.

The September 2023 security patch is the last update these two devices will ever get. Samsung launched the phones with Android 9 out of the box, and four-year support mostly satisfies the buyers.

Similarly, Microsoft’s Surface Duo foldable device loses software support, meaning people will have to consider buying a new foldable phone or a smartphone for that matter. The company had promised a three-year support for the Duo when it was also unveiled in 2019 and now that timeline has been completed.

Since these devices were launched, Samsung has stopped making the Galaxy Note series, instead, you get an Ultra variant as a part of the Galaxy S flagship lineup. Samsung has changed its strategy with software, providing more OS updates and security updates for not only the premium phones but the affordable range as well. The brand also has moved quickly into the foldable segment, launching five-gen fold and flip phones across the world.

The company has worked extensively with Google for Android and Wear OS for smartwatches in the past few years and that tight-knit between the companies is clearly paying dividends for the South Korean giant.

On the other hand, Microsoft has taken a different approach with the Duo, and even though we saw the Duo 2, the company is unlikely to push this lineup further in the coming years. The brand has used a forked version of Android to customise the UI with Windows-like elements that give it a familiar touch to the Microsoft fanboys. But a steep price tag and limited OS capability made it a hard sell very quickly.
