Incredible scenes unfolded in Pakistan’s Super 4 match against Afghanistan in the Asia Cup 2022, after Pakistan batter Asif Ali threatened to hit Afghanistan’s Fareed Ahmad with the bat. The event took place in the penultimate over of the match with Pakistan going through a tense chase.

Considered at the time as Pakistan’s final hope, Asif Ali was batting at 16 off 7 balls, taking on the Afghanistan bowling attack. However, Ali’s mis-hit resulted in his departure in the fifth ball of the 19th over. As the Pakistan batter walked off the pitch, he went into his wicket taker Fareed Ahmad, who celebrated the wicket wildly. Asif Ali did not take the gesture kindly and first raised his bat, threatening to hit the bowler and the shoving him with his elbow.

This prompted the Afghan players to rush in a separate the two players. Users in the social media condemned the incident.

While it looked like Afghanistan had the game in the bag after Asif Ali’s wicket, Pakistan were taken over the line by tailender Naseem Shah, who smacked Fazalhaq Farooqi for two massive sixes in the final over of the game. With the win, Pakistan have now entered the final of the Asia Cup 2022 and will be facing Sri Lanka in the final of the tournament.
