Woman Hacks Minor Daughter To Death Over Relationship In UP, Arrested

A woman in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi has been arrested for allegedly hacking her minor daughter to death as she was unhappy with her relationship with a man from the same village. Police officials told news agency PTI that after killing the 15-year-old girl with an axe, the mother dumped her body in a well with the help of other family members. After the incident, the mother, Shivpati, lodged a complaint at Manjhanpur police station on October 14 that her daughter had been kidnapped. SP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said that as per the woman’s complaint, her daughter had gone to the fields for some work on October 2 and hadn’t returned home since then. An abduction case was lodged against unknown people based on her complaint and a probe was also launched.

During the investigation, some villagers informed the police on October 26 that they saw the body of a girl in a well outside Tejvapur village.

Shivpati identified the body as her daughter following which murder charges were added in the case. However, certain pieces of evidence that were found earlier indicated Shivpati as the prime suspect. She was arrested for murder on Monday while her other minor daughter was apprehended.

According to PTI, her daughter-in-law Meera is absconding and the police are trying to nab her as soon as possible.

Police interrogated Shivpati during which they learnt about the axe and stick used in the murder. The SP said that the police recovered the murder weapons along with a sack which was used to hide the body.

As the interrogation continued, Shivpati told Police that she had asked her daughter to discontinue her relationship with a boy belonging to the same village. She added that her daughter did not comply. She then confessed that on midnight of October 2, she, her other daughter and Meera allegedly killed the victim by hitting her with an axe and a stick. They stuffed her body in a jute sack after the murder and dumped it in a well located on a field outside their village, reported PTI.

Shivpati then said that to avoid suspicion from the police and people, she lodged a case of kidnapping, as reported by PTI.
