‘Winning IND vs SA Tests Wouldn’t Make Up For World Cup Loss’: Rohit Sharma

Team India skipper Rohit Sharma has candidly admitted that winning the Tests series against South Africa wouldn’t compensate for the World Cup final loss. The senior opener admitted this during his first-ever press conference following India’s heartbreaking Cricket World Cup final defeat, last month.

Rohit Sharma is all geared up to lead the Indian cricket team against South Africa in a two-match Test series, starting from December 26 (Tuesday) onwards. The veteran is determined to create history by securing India’s maiden Test victory in the Rainbow Nation. However, ahead of IND vs SA 1st Test, Rohit, during the pre-match presser, admitted that even a series win vs South Africa wouldn’t entirely compensate for the World Cup loss.

“It will be a matter of huge respect to win the series here, but I don’t know if it will make up for the World Cup loss. Winning a World Cup is a different thing, but we will give our best. We have been working hard for so long we deserve to win something big“, stated Rohit Sharma in a press conference.

India entered the ODI World Cup as favorites to lift the trophy this year, but the summit clash in Ahmedabad proved to be a one-sided affair, with Australia emerging as world champions for a record-breaking sixth time in ODIs.

For the first time since the ODI World Cup final, both Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will return to action with the upcoming IND vs SA Test series.

Mukesh Sharma vs Prasidh Krishna: Selection conundrum for Rohit Sharma

“It is a very tough call for us to pick between the two (Mukesh Kumar and Prasidh Krishna). We have to see what the team needs and how the pitch behaves. They are different bowlers and we are discussion about the same,” Rohit Sharma said.
