Windows 11 highlights: New icons, integrated teams, widgets, free upgrades and more

Windows 11 is here, and Microsoft has confirmed that the new generation of Windows computing experience will feature new icons and a new, fresh UI design. The new Windows interface certainly looks smart and in line with the new generation. File Explorer ultimately doesn’t look prehistoric, and you get a centrally placed Start button, among other things. There’s a new Widgets tab that Microsoft is betting big on, with curated content and app widgets. Talking about apps, the Microsoft Store has a new UI and better organized features. It also comes with Android apps that you can install directly on your PC. In terms of gaming, Microsoft has brought Auto HDR and Direct Storage APIs to make eligible games travel faster.

In terms of upgrades, ahead of launch, was as expected a new interface Which was slated to place the Start button in the center of the lower taskbar. The new generation design was also accompanied by a new array of app icons, which were up to date with modern design standards and preferences – and more consistent with the image Microsoft wants to present itself with right now. In his wrap-up speech, Microsoft chief Satya Nadella reaffirmed the philosophy behind Windows 11, calling it the face of a company that’s building itself up for the next decade. The speech was as poignant and substantial from Nadella, and also highlighted the services and developer focus that Microsoft hopes Windows 11 will bring to the table.

As expected, the brand has started confirming the free upgrade to Windows 11 for existing and new Windows 10 PCs, once it becomes available. Exact availability and pricing to come soon.
