South Korean vlogger Barbie Jini vlogged her escape from the Bangkok mall mass shooting earlier this week.
South Korean Internet celebrity Barbie Jini who was vlogging about her stay in Thailand at the Siam Paragon mall in downtown Bangkok ended up filming her own escape from the mass shooter who killed two people and injured over five people earlier this week.
Jini was enjoying a beverage at a Japanese restaurant at the luxury mall when shots rang out. She was live vlogging on South Korean video platform AfreecaTV.
“Why? Why? What’s going on? Gun! It looks like a gun,” she says. However, Jini remains unfazed, picks up her camera and continues recording while joining hundreds of shoppers rushing towards the mall exit.
Thailand police arrested a 14-year-old boy after a shooting at a packed Bangkok mall. The deadly attacks came just days before the first anniversary of the deadliest massacre in modern Thai history when an ex-cop attacked a nursery in northern Thailand, murdering 24 children and 12 adults.
A Chinese tourist and a Myanmar national died in Tuesday’s attack. The five injured – one Lao national, one Chinese national and three Thais – suffered wounds of varying degrees of severity, according to Kanchana Patarachoke, director-general of the Department of Information and Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokeswoman.
The teenager who carried out the shooting was charged with premeditated murder and illegal possession of a firearm. He was receiving psychiatric treatment and surrendered himself after running out of bullets.
Jini was gasping for breath after escaping from the shooting. She told her viewers that she at first thought it was a prank. “When I saw a child’s mother running and leaving their stroller behind, I thought it must not be a joke. I packed up all my belongings and rushed out,” Jini said.
“If I had been just a little bit late, I could have been in big trouble,” she further added. “This is my first time in Thailand but my last day there was very eventful. I regret having to show the shooting incident live in Bangkok,” she said.
The video also captured how people were dashing for the exit as shots rang out in order to save their lives.
