Video footage uploaded to ertnews.gr shows the plane descending rapidly before hitting the ground in flames in what appears to be an explosion. The fire department could not confirm the type of plane, but said initial reports had eight people on board.

It said in a statement that 15 firefighters and seven locomotives were deployed to douse the fire that broke out after the accident. More rescuers have been sent. The Special Disaster Response Unit is investigating the scene. A fire brigade official said that we are treating the cargo as dangerous material.
