95-year-old father Ram Nagina Yadav remembering son Ramdular says, “He had come home on a 15-day leave in April 1999, 4 months before the martyrdom. The day he was to go back to his unit, I was plowing the field with the bullocks. It was afternoon. The heat was wreaking havoc in the scorching sun. After bidding farewell to the house, he was coming to the field to meet me by catching the footpath. I thought some work would be done. Near size said that father, I am going back, the holiday is over.

I said so soon? He shook his head and said, “Yes father.” I made the bullocks stand on the side under the shade of the tree. Seeing me drenched in sweat, I said in an excited voice that next time I come on holiday, I will buy a new tractor. Then you will get rid of plowing. Your son has started earning. Won’t let you plow the plow now.
