A month has passed since Khalistan supporters attacked the Indian High Commission in London on March 19. Scotland Yard (London Police) has so far been able to arrest only one accused after the FIR registered at Westminster Police Station in London, and that too has been released on bail.

A former British police officer told that the attack on the High Commission was part of a larger conspiracy. Many of the attackers were also armed, but despite this the police action has remained poor.

Due to the poor investigation by Scotland Yard, India has decided to send its National Investigation Agency (NIA) team to London for investigation. Talking to Dainik Bhaskar, a police officer said that CCTV footage has revealed that most of the Khalistani supporters involved in the attack were British Sikhs.

Most are born in the UK and hold British citizenship. NIA will not be able to interrogate them directly. In such a situation, the NIA will have to depend on the British police for investigation.

Why British police are lax… 3 big reasons

  • Khalistan supporters have deepened their network in Britain. Through social funding, they increase influence in the UK.
  • By propagating human rights abuses in India, Khalistan supporters gather sympathy for themselves from British social organizations.
  • Britain’s police and administration often avoid taking action considering the issue of Khalistan as an issue related to India.

Phone numbers also not traced
Active phone numbers around the Indian High Commission during the attack and calls made from there have also not been traced so far. Police could easily detect it through electronic surveillance. But even after a month no action has been taken. Also, the British police had security input of violent demonstrations by Khalistan supporters outside the Indian High Commission, but even after this no security was deployed outside the High Commission.

British police swung into action after India’s crackdown
India retaliated by adopting a tough attitude when the British police did not take action in the matter of attack on the High Commission. India removed policemen from the security of the British High Commission in New Delhi.

Only after this, 12 security personnel have been deployed outside the Indian High Commission in London. According to media reports, India had also warned to shelve the FTA (Free Trade Agreement). However, the Indian side later dismissed this apprehension related to the FTA.
