Thane: Netas protest administration apathy, adjourn crucial civic meet | Thane News – Times of India

THANE: High drama prevailed in the Thane standing committee, Wednesday late evening, as the members unanimously decided to adjourn the meeting as a mark of protest against the administration for failing to allocate adequate budget for basic works in their wards.
The issue was raised by corporators during discussions on construction of a multi storeyed structure in Thane under the cluster scheme following which the elected representatives pointed out why budget for several approved projects were never released by the administration.
“There are several instances where projects have been cleared by the general body and the spending by the standing committee but the work orders are delayed or never released at all. It has been noted that several approved works take nearly four to five years to get the budget,” pointed NCP senior corporator Hanmant Jagdale.
Congress corporator Vikrant Chavan also pointed out irregularities in the budget estimate prepared by the administration of the multi-storeyed structure even before its design was to be finalised.
Even as the officials struggled to present a convincing reply to the queries, members questioned the absence of the municipal commissioner for the crucial meetings including at the general body and lamented that the administration was taking the elected representatives for granted and demanded the meet be adjourned as a mark of protest.
Chairman and Shiv Sena corporator Sanjay Bhoir also expressed concern saying the administration led by the municipal commissioner often failed to address the problems of the elected representatives. “Several crucial projects suggested by the corporators never get adequate budget but those suiting the administration are prioritised which is unfortunate. We adjourned the meet as a mark of protest against the administration,” he said.
