Mughal history removed from books and want to include Gujarat riots back in syllables

Schools in Kerala are being recommended to teach the syllabus removed from NCERT. CM Pinarayi Vijayan has already supported it. He wants to include the Mughal history removed from the books and the Gujarat riots back in the syllabus.

The state’s syllabus steering committee held a meeting on Tuesday and suggested the state government to include the parts left out by the NCERT. The committee has chosen Education Minister V Sivankutty to discuss the matter with the government and take a final decision. There was also talk of preparing supplementary text books in this meeting. The final decision will be taken by the state government and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Earlier, minister V Sivankutty had said that the state would include the deleted portions in the Kerala school syllabus. The NCERT had dropped Mughal History, Gujarat Riots and Darwin’s Theory from the school textbooks.

Kerala opposed the removal of syllabus
The state government has already been opposing the reduction of NCERT syllabus and Chief Minister Vijayan had said that the decision to remove certain chapters and events from the textbooks for political purposes is not only distortion of history but also objectionable.
The CM had said, “You cannot deny historical facts, it is not right to remove them from the books.”

Know which syllabus was removed by NCERT
The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) had made some changes in the syllabus of History, Civics and Hindi for class 12 this year. The chapter related to the Mughal Empire was removed from the history book. Apart from this, it was decided to remove some poems and paragraphs from the Hindi book.

Mughal Darbar disappeared from the pages of the book
As per the updated syllabus, the chapters related to the Mughal court (16th and 17th centuries) and rulers and their history have been removed from Themes of Indian History-Part II. Chapters like ‘US Hegemony in World Politics’ and ‘The Cold War Era’ have been removed from the Civics book.

Also, the ‘rise of mass movement’ and ‘era of one-party dominance’ have been dropped from the book on Politics in Independent India. In these, the nature of dominance of Congress, Socialist, Communist Party, Communist Party of India, Bharatiya Jana Sangh etc. are taught.
