New Delhi: The Punjab Police in a joint operation with the Special Task Force (STF) of Punjab and Uttarakhand detained six people from Dehradun’s Peliyon Police Chowki area in connection with the murder of popular singer and rapper Sidhu Moose Wala, news agency ANI reported sources as saying. All six detained are currently being grilled by the Punjab Police.
Earlier in the day, the Special Cell of Delhi Police along with the Tihar Jail administration conducted searches in the cells of prisoners Lawrence Bishnoi, Jaggu Bhagwanpuria and Sampat Nehra in connection with Moose Wala’s murder. The officials, however, found no mobile phones during the searches.
Bishnoi and Nehra are lodged in jail number 8 while Bhagwanpuria is lodged in jail number 5.
This comes as the Punjab Police suspect Bishnoi and his associates to be involved in the killing.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has ordered an inquiry into the decision to reduce Moose Wala’s security.
Condemning Moose Wala’s murder, Mann said the state government will leave no stone unturned to bring the perpetrators of this heinous crime to justice.
Mann said that he will get an inquiry done into Moose Wala’s murder by a sitting judge of the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The Chief Minister said the state government will fully cooperate in the investigation.
He also sought a clarification on the statement made by Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) V.K. Bhawra earlier on Sunday that Moose Wala’s security was not withdrawn but curtailed.
Mann’s remarks came in response to the request made by the singer’s father.
Punjab’s top cop had on Sunday said two out of four commandos were withdrawn from his security temporarily due to Ghalughara Diwas.
“But two commandos were still attached with him but he refused to take them along and even told them there is no need to come,” he added.
Bhawra said that Moose Wala even had a private bulletproof vehicle but did not use it.
The DGP said that at least three weapons were used and 30 rounds fired in the attack.
“This incident seems to be a case of an inter gang rivalry,” he added.
Moose Wala, who had unsuccessfully contested the assembly polls on a Congress ticket, was shot dead at around 5: 30 p.m. on Sunday at Jawaharke village in the state’s Mansa district.
This took place a day after the state government halved the number of security personnel in his security detail.
