Sankashti Chaturthi June 2022: Check Puja Vidhi, Muhurat, Moonrise Timing & Other Details

New Delhi: Sankashti Chaturthi fast is significant for Lord Ganesha devotees who observe a vrat (fast) on the Lunar fortnight’s Chaturthi Tithi (fourth day). The fast is observed on the Chaturthi Tithi of Krishna Paksha of any month. This vrat is observed during the Moon’s waxing phase (Shukla Paksha) and is referred to as Vinayaka Chaturthi, while the Krishna Paksha (waning phase) vrat is known as Sankashti or Sankat Hara Vrat.

With 12 waning phases of the Moon annually, Sankashti Chaturthi is every month according to the Hindu calendar. Every Sankashti vrat has a specific name and significance. For example, the Sankashti Vrat of Ashadha, Krishna Paksha (per the Purnimant calendar) or Jyeshtha, Krishna Paksha (per the Amavasyant calendar), is Krishnapingala Sankashti Chaturthi. According to the scriptures, Lord Ganesha is also known as ‘Remover of Obstacle’, and that is why he is called ‘Vignaharta’.
