There has been a ruckus in the Punjab Police over the transfers. On January 8, 47 DSPs of Punjab Police were transferred. When these transfers took place, the Election Commission’s press conference was going on at that time. Even the orders for posting of new DGP of VK Bhavra had already been done. At the same time, the transfer order was signed by the then acting DGP Siddharth Chattopadhyay. However, Chattopadhyay says that it is not his sign. Somebody made a fake sign. On the same day VK Bhavra was appointed as the new DGP in place of Chattopadhyay.

Orders made shortly before the code of conduct

These orders of transfer to Punjab Police came at a time when it was clear that the model code of conduct for Punjab elections is going to be imposed in a short while. Even before the Election Commission would announce that the model code of conduct has now come into force, these orders came to the fore. About which questions started arising at the same time.

Bhawra had become DGP instead of Chattopadhyay

These transfers also came into the limelight because on the same day the Punjab government withdrew the charge of acting DGP from Siddharth Chattopadhyay. According to the panel that came from UPSC in his place, VK Bhavra was appointed as the new DGP. In such a situation, questions were being raised on the same day regarding the order of Chattopadhyay and the transfer on his sign. However, there is no official response from the government in this matter yet.
