What is the difference between free ravadis and welfare announcements? There is an interesting debate going on. Actually, it was suggested by the Supreme Court. The court had said that whether the announcements made by the parties before the election are practical or not? What effect do they have on the government treasury? After all, what is the difference between free rewari and welfare schemes or announcements, there should be a debate on this.

The Election Commission has written a letter to all the political parties and asked that according to you, which are the welfare schemes and which are the free rewari? It also asked why the financial impact of pre-poll announcements should not be told. Well the Election Commission has fulfilled its responsibility by writing a letter. Now the series of answers begins. Different parties and their leaders are giving interesting and laughable answers.

A BJP leader said- Giving free houses and ration to the poor is a welfare scheme, but giving free electricity is rewari. If we go deep into it, it is known that the scheme of free house and ration is of the central government. The scheme of free electricity is of the AAP party which it has implemented in Delhi and Punjab. Also in Gujarat, AAP is promising free electricity as elections are going to be held there.

The BJP leaders forgot that the Chief Minister of his own party Jai Ram Thakur has launched the scheme of free electricity in Himachal. On the other hand, the Congress says that the Election Commission should not fall into the trap of coining the definition of free rewari and welfare schemes because it does not come under its jurisdiction. It is the job of Parliament to decide and Parliament will do it very well. The rest of the opposition parties do not want to get into this debate at the moment.

Overall, it is yet to be decided how to check the pre-poll announcements that entice voters. Or whether it should be curbed or not. It remains to be seen what is the stand of the Supreme Court on this. Whether a regulatory commission is formed in this regard or this responsibility is handed over to the Election Commission itself, only the future will tell.
