New Delhi: With daily cases of Covid-19 witnessing a downward trend in the national capital, Health Minister Satyendra Jain on Sunday said around 17,000 new Covid infection cases are expected to be reported today in Delhi.
“Restrictions imposed by Delhi government impacted the spread of Covid-19. We will monitor the situation for three to four days before reviewing curbs,” said Jain.
“For the last two days, fewer cases are being registered continuously. Today, up to 17,000 cases would be registered in Delhi, and the infection rate will be under 30 per cent,” he said.
The Minister also expects that the positivity rate will decrease too. On being questioned whether less cases are being reported due to fewer tests being conducted, Jain said ‘there’s no issue in testing and no one is being denied for a Covid test’. The Minister asserted that Tests are being done according to the guidelines of ICMR.
“There is no issue in testing. Anyone who wants to get the test done is not denied. However, fewer people come to get the test done during the weekend curfew. Between 60,000 to 1 lakh Covid tests have been done daily in Delhi in the last one month,” Jain detailed.
Today will be the third consecutive day when Covid cases in Delhi will see a downward trend. On January 15, 20718 cases were reported, which had decreased by about 3665 cases as compared to January 14 i.e. Friday.
Health Minister Satyendra Jain further said that about 67,000 Covid tests were done on Saturday and tests are being done according to the guidelines of ICMR.
Earlier on Saturday, the Health Minister had said that the decline in cases of Covid infection is being recorded. He also claimed that admissions in hospitals have not increased in the last 5-6 days and about 85 percent of the beds in hospitals are lying vacant.
