New Delhi: The preparations for Republic Day are in full swing in Delhi. At the same time, a vigil is also being maintained, keeping in mind the security.
There will be a ban on the operation of sub-conventional aerial platforms including drones, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), paragliders, and hot air balloons in the national capital from today. The order will remain in effect till February 15.
According to an order by Delhi Police Commissioner Rakesh Asthana, the operation of Paragliders, Paramotors, Hang Gliders, UAVs, UAS, Microlight Aircraft, Remotely Piloted Aircraft, Hot Air Balloons, Small Size Operated aircraft, sub-conventional aerial platforms such as quadcopters or paras are banned on the occasion of Republic Day celebrations this year.
Delhi Police further said that it was decided after intel reports suggested some criminal or anti-social elements or terrorists may pose a threat to the security of the general public, dignitaries, and important establishments by the use of sub-conventional air platforms.
Order To Remain In Effect Till February 15: Delhi Police
Quoting Delhi Police Commissioner Asthana, media reports said that this order will come into force from January 20 and will be in force for a period of 27 days, that is, till February 15 (both days inclusive) unless it is withdrawn earlier.
People going against the rule will be punished under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
Ahead of Republic Day, Delhi Police has “increased security” after receiving information from intelligence agencies about the possibility of a terrorist attack in the National Capital Region (NCR).
In order to mitigate any threat beforehand, around 300 cameras with a face-recognition facility have been installed around the Rajpath, according to reports.
Red Fort To Remain Closed For Five Days
Earlier, Delhi Police had said in a statement that the Red Fort will remain closed for the common people for five days.
Delhi Police said that in view of the security on Republic Day, the Red Fort will be closed for common citizens and tourists from January 22 to January 26.
