Former Jharkhand Education Minister and MLA from Mandar assembly constituency of Ranchi district Bandhu Tirkey has been sentenced to three years imprisonment by the court in the disproportionate assets case. The CBI had registered a case against Tirkey in 2010.
The court of Special CBI Judge PK Sharma in Ranchi gave its verdict on Mandar MLA and Congress Working President Bandhu Tirkey today. Tirkey was sentenced to three years in prison. A fine of three lakhs has also been imposed on him. Tirkey was accused of acquiring assets disproportionate to his income of Rs 6 lakh 28 thousand 698. The court convicted them and sentenced them as well.
On August 1, 2010, the CBI had registered a case against Bandhu Tirkey in the disproportionate assets case. CBI investigation revealed that Tirkey had acquired disproportionate assets of Rs.6 lakh 28 thousand 698 from March 2005 to June 2009 as MLA of Mander.
In the special CBI court, 21 witnesses were produced for the prosecution and eight for the defense. In the case, social activist Rajiv Sharma had filed a complaint in the lower court in 2009. The trial court had ordered an inquiry on July 1, 2009.
