Prithvi Shaw receives bitter-sweet news regarding his injury

As per media reports, young batter Prithvi Shaw will take another three or four months to fully recover from his injury as he still has swelling in his knee

Indian batter Prithvi Shaw is not going to return to the field anytime soon as his recovery might take longer than expected. The right-hand batter suffered a knee injury knee in August while playing a one-day game against Durham in English domestic cricket which eventually cut short his Northamptonshire stint. Before leaving the United Kingdom, Shaw scored 244 and 125 not out in two of his four innings in the Royal London One-Day Cup.

According to The Indian Express, Shaw will take another three or four months to fully recover from his injury as he still has swelling in his knee. It has also been learned that the Indian cricket board is consulting experts to decide whether Shaw needs surgery or will heal naturally.

The report further quoted a BCCI official, confirming that the 23-year-old’s rehabilitation will take time.

“An MRI was done after he got injured and it revealed a Grade-II tear of the posterior cruciate ligament. He was sent to the NCA where we found that there is still swelling in his knee. We have decided to consult Dr Dinshaw Pardiwala in this case. It will take at least four months for him to play competitive cricket again,” the report quoted a BCCI official as saying.

Shaw had skipped the Deodhar Trophy to take part in England’s Royal London Cup. But the injury ended his stint in a few weeks’ time. Before leaving the Northamptonshire camp, Shaw said he was looking forward to recovering soon and returning to the side.

“I’m so excited to be heading back to Northamptonshire next summer. Even though it was over quickly, I really enjoyed my time there. It’s a great club to be a part of and I was welcomed by everyone immediately. I can’t wait to get back. My goal is always to help win games for the team and it was so disappointing to get injured and have to leave early this time,” Shaw had stated in a statement after his injury.

“I had a few teams contacting me after the tournament wanting to talk about playing for them next year, but I feel like I still have more to achieve with Northamptonshire. They gave me the opportunity this year and I’m very happy to be coming back.”

Prithvi Shaw has represented India in five Tests, six ODIs and a lone T20I.
