The Ministry of Education (MoE) recently issued an official notification inviting applications for the post of Vice Chancellor at Pondicherry University. Candidates can apply for the post of vice-chancellor by visiting the main website at education.gov.in and pondiuni.edu.in. As per the notice, the last date to submit the online application forms is Sunday, December 31. “The applications in the prescribed pro-forma should reach within 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement, by email only,” read the official notice.

Candidates with a distinguished academic background and a minimum of 10 years of professorial experience in a university or its equivalent are eligible to apply. Those with a decade of experience in a reputable research or academic administrative organisation and evidence of academic leadership are also eligible. The age requirement for interested candidates is 65 years as of December 31, 2023.

A committee formed under the provisions of the Pondicherry University Act, 1985, will recommend a panel of names for appointment.

Pondicherry University Vice Chancellor Recruitment: Salary

The monthly salary for the position of vice chancellor is Rs 2,10,000, plus a special allowance of Rs 11,250 along with other standard allowances. The terms and conditions outlined in the Act, university statutes, and ordinances will apply to the services.

According to the Times of India, Gurmeet Singh’s tenure as outgoing vice-chancellor ended on November 23, this year. After completing a five-year term as vice-chancellor, Singh was given a one-year extension. His five-year term ended on November 23, 2022. Gurmeet Singh’s tenure ended in controversy, with the executive council convening a day before his last day in office and passing a few resolutions approving the appointment of people to key positions, reports added.

Pondicherry University is a central university founded in October 1985. The university provides a range of master’s and doctoral programmes in several subjects, including History, Law, Chemistry, Management Studies, Commerce, Tourism, Banking Technology, Economics, Mathematics, Physics, Applied Psychology, Biotechnology, and Foreign Languages.
