PM, Shah to attend Yogi’s swearing-in on March 25 | India News – Times of India

NEW DELHI/LUCKNOW: PM Modi, home minister Amit Shah, senior cabinet colleagues and CMs of BJP-led states will be present among others at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on March 25 when Yogi Adityanath takes oath as UP CM for a second term. BJP has decided to invite opposition leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka, Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh and Mayawati.
Yogi Adityanath will be the first chief minister after 1952 to register a win after completing a full five-year term.
The ceremony will likely start at 4pm at the stadium situated along the Shaheed Path. Officials are prepping the stadium for the occasion that is likely to see up to 10,000 guests. Beneficiaries of social welfare schemes of the central and state governments were also invited.
Before the oath-taking event, Union home minister Amit Shah and former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das — appointed observers for the legislative party meeting — will be in Lucknow to complete the formalities of Yogi’s election as legislative party leader.
Sources said Yogi, after returning from Gorakhpur, will sit with Shah and Das to finalise the list of ministers to be sworn in. Top party sources said the focus will be on giving representation to women and young MLAs, other than the caste and regional factors.
Party sources said Keshav Prasad Maurya might be retained as deputy CM, though he lost the assembly elections from Sirathu, and there is a possibility of a woman legislator being made deputy chief minister too. The BJP top brass held marathon meetings with its UP members to review the party’s performance in the elections and also pored over the winning candidates’ profiles to pick the ministers, the sources said.
The district administration and police in Lucknow are charting out road diversions and route maps around the stadium and across Shaheed Path to ensure smooth traffic for VIPs.
