Prime Minister Narendra Modi today addressed the first batch of Agniveers. The PM spoke to everyone through video conferencing. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh was also present during this. These Agniveers were recruited in December last year. After 6 months of training, they will be deployed in the army. These Agniveers will join all the training centers of all the three forces – Army, Air and Navy. On June 14, 2022, the central government launched the Agneepath scheme.

First batch selected from Jammu and Kashmir
According to media reports, the first batch of Agniveer has been selected from Jammu and Kashmir. Around 200 candidates were selected after physical test, written test and document verification. Regarding this, all have been sent from the Army Recruitment Office in Srinagar to about 30 centers of different regiments of the Indian Army, where their training is going on.

Promotion after 4 years
After four years, there will be regular tests for promotion in the army, as they are now. Those 25% who get Agniveer promotion will remain in the army. There are usually 1000 people in a battalion. There are 14 to 18 officers in them. The recruitment of officers will not be done through Agneepath, but only through regular examination.

The battalion consists of 700 armed soldiers, including NCOs (non-commissioned officers) of varying ranks. Like Subedar, Naib Subedar etc. However, only jawans will be selected through the Agneepath scheme. After four years, 25% of these jawans will be promoted, who will later reach the post of Subedar-Naib Subedar. Then they will not be called Agniveer, they will be called regular soldiers. They will remain in the army for 17 to 20 years.

Apart from these, there are about 280 jawans like clerks, drivers, cooks etc. Their appointment will also be done from the Agneepath scheme only. According to this, in the coming years in every battalion, 700 soldiers will be of Agneepath Yojana. Regiments will get soldiers according to their criteria from the Agneepath scheme. Now the regiments will not do recruitment at their own level.

Government enumerated the benefits
In the fact sheet issued by the government on the Agneepath scheme, it has been told that this is not an ordeal, but an opportunity. The recruitment of Agniveers will be three times more in the coming years. On completion of the service, financial assistance will be given to the jawans who want to become entrepreneurs. Retired firemen will be given priority in central forces and state police recruitment. The apprehension of Agniveers becoming a threat to the society is baseless.

The youth initially opposed the plan
Initially, the youth opposed the Agneepath scheme. Demonstrations were held across the country. To cool down the anger of the youth, the Ministry of Home Affairs and Defense announced reservation. The Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to provide 10% reservation for Agniveers in recruitment in CAPFs (Central Armed Police Forces) and Assam Rifles. Announced to give them relief of 3 to 5 years in the age limit as well.

After this, the Ministry of Defense has also announced to give 10 percent reservation to Agniveers in the recruitments to be held in their ministry. Along with the Indian Coast Guard and Defense Civilian Posts of the Ministry of Defense, 16 companies of Defense Public Sector Undertaking will also get reservation in appointments.
