Over 6,000 take jab on 1st day of precautionary dose drive in Jharkhand | Ranchi News – Times of India

RANCHI/JAMSHEDPUR: Over 6,000 doses were administered in the state on day one of the nationwide third dose drive on Monday.
While the state government did not issue the official figures on the total number of senior citizens with co-morbidities and healthcare and frontline workers who took the precautionary dose when this report was filed, as per the real time data available on the Co-WIN portal, as many as 5,929 doses were given across 2,808 vaccine sites till 8pm.
In Ranchi, as many as 855 doses were administered across 95 session sites, which includes nine private hospitals. Dr S B Khalko, the nodal officer in Ranch, however, said that the final figures may increase further as report from all the blocks were yet to come. “All that I can say at this moment no problems were reported from anywhere and the inoculation drive proceeded in a smooth manner,” he added.
In Jamshedpur (East Singbhum), 1,031 doses were administered at 149 session sites, including six private ones. On the first day, the eligible beneficiaries were mostly the health and frontline workers who had turned up for taking the precautionary dose.
The administration had made preparations to administer 13,715 doses in the urban and suburban areas of Jamshedpur block, 10,365 doses across the remaining eight blocks of the district on the first day, said an official.
A total of 293 health workers, 267 staff and 244 senior citizens took the vaccine. “Total count of the doses administered on the first day will take few hours to reach the district health department,” said additional chief medical officer Sahir Pall.
He added, “What was encouraging about the drive was that people are aware of it and we are receiving a lot of queries about the process of registration for getting the vaccination.”
The precautionary dose is being given to elderlies with co-morbid conditions, frontline and health workers only if the beneficiary has completed nine months from taking the date when he/she took the second dose. In case of an elderly with comorbid condition, they are allowed to take the third dose after consulting her/her doctor but aren’t required to provide any doctor’s certificate.
