At 1 pm, CHC i.e. Community Health Center of Hasanganj, Unnao. His family members including 4-5 patients are sitting under a tree outside the hospital. On talking, he tells that there is no light facility inside the hospital. In summer, the patient is getting nervous, so he is sitting under the tree.

On asking the question of the facilities available in the hospital, the patients, wiping sweat, say in talks, “Deputy CM Brajesh Pathak is going around so many hospitals, once he had come here too, his situation would have been fine.” This is not just the story of this hospital. We are going to tell the situation of 7 such hospitals of UP, where people are troubled due to poor facilities. Let’s take a turn around these seven hospitals…

Hospital 1. More than 20 lakh people rely on Halat Hospital in Kanpur

Two children are being treated in the same bed in the hospital. Due to less money, the family members have to pack the dead bodies of their loved ones themselves.

2 to 3 children are being treated on the same bed
There are neither enough beds nor facilities in the children’s ward of Hallett Hospital. Both the children have different diseases, yet they are being treated on the same bed.

After the postmortem, the family members themselves are packing dead body
After the post-mortem, the staff present there demands one to one and a half thousand rupees from the family members to pack the dead body. Many families who do not have money, have to pack their own bodies.

“What’s the use of a government hospital when you have to buy medicine from outside?”
Many family members present in the hospital say, “Doctors prescribe 60 to 70% of medicines that are not available in the hospital dispensary. We have to bring medicine from outside. Sometimes the price is so high that we are not able to get that medicine to the patient. If we had bought the medicine from outside, why would we have come to the government hospital.”

Hospital 2. The district hospital of Chitrakoot has to take care of the health of 13 lakh people.

Due to the paucity of beds in the hospital, pregnant women have to sit on the ground till the child is born. In the absence of a stretcher, the family members have to carry the patient themselves.

The pregnant has to lie on the ground until the child is born
In the hospital, pregnant women are given beds only after having a child. There are not even enough chairs to sit here. Therefore, pregnant women have to sit or lie down on the ground until the child is born.

“Doctors come if they want, otherwise they don’t”
Every day around 700 patients come to the OPD in the hospital. The doctors’ cabin remains empty, due to which the patients have to wander for the doctor in the hospital.

The patients undergoing treatment here say, “If the doctor sees even once in 24 hours, then it is a big deal. When the doctor wants, he comes to see us only. Sometimes we don’t see any doctor for 2-3 days.”

Stretchers are not available, the patient has to be held or carried on the shoulder
Patients are not even able to get stretchers and wheel chairs in the hospital. Even the hospital staff is not present to help the patients. In such a situation, the family of the patients has to support them and sometimes carry them on their shoulders and take them for treatment.

Hospital 3. CHC of Hasanganj, Unnao, the first option of health of 2 lakh 10 thousand people

There is no lighting system in Unnao's CHC. Pregnant women troubled by the heat were seen wandering here and there in the hospital.

“For the delivery of pregnant women ask for one to one and a half thousand rupees”
Pregnant women who come to the hospital say, “One to one and a half thousand rupees are asked from them for delivery. If their family is unable to pay, the nurses refuse to take care of the patient and clean it.”

Women told, “Till 3 to 4 years ago, 300 rupees were charged for delivery in the hospital. Then about 25 to 30 pregnant women used to come here in a day. Ever since the hospital staff has increased the money, then in a day. Only 8 to 10 women come.”

“We also did corona duty, on the contrary, we are also asking for money”
170 ASHA workers work in the hospital. His salary has not come since March. Only 4 thousand 500 rupees have been received from January to March also. Asha workers told off-camera, “I worked during the time of Corona, instead of getting money, the department is asking for money from them. Every Asha worker has been asked for Rs 2,000. Threatened to stop the salary if the money is not paid.” She goes.”

Take salary from this hospital, do duty elsewhere
There are 3 doctors in this hospital who take salary from here, but work in other hospitals.

The post of MBBS doctor is vacant for 11 years
In the year 2011, this health center was built by investing Rs.39 lakh 76 thousand. But till now not a single MBBS doctor has been posted here. This post is lying vacant since last 11 years. In such a situation, the entire PHC is running on the basis of Homeopath Doctor Ramesh Kumar and Pharmacist Rajendra Pandey, who came on contract in 2017.

Used injections lying in the open
Used glucose bottles and injections are lying in the open at different places in the hospital, causing problems to the patients. There is only one sweeper Raju in the hospital. He says, “His entire day is spent in cleaning the hospital. Clean one side, on the other side the dirt spreads again. Sometimes sweepers come from Block Belsar for cleaning, but they go away with impunity.”

“If someone falls ill at night, he has to wait till morning”
At the time of formation of PHC, doctors’ houses were built by investing Rs 15 lakh. But these houses were not handed over to any doctor. As a result, all the houses are now in ruins. Electric wires, doors, windows are all uprooted.

Due to the dilapidated condition of the residences, no doctor is ready to stay here overnight. People told, “If someone falls ill at night or if there is an accident, then one has to wait till morning. Many patients also die during this time.

Hospital elevator and ventilator gathering dust
On 12 December 1990, the then CM Mulayam Singh had laid the foundation of this hospital. After about 13 years, in the year 2003, this hospital was completed. The hospital is of 4 floors. A lift was also installed in the building for the convenience of the patients and their families. But even after 19 years the lift has not been able to run.

At the same time, there are 11 ventilators in the hospital which are dusty because there is no one to operate them. Many patients coming to the hospital die due to non-functioning of ventilators.

Trauma center has been closed for 6 years
In the year 2016, a trauma center was built by investing Rs 157 lakh 43 thousand. People felt that in 2 to 3 months they would start getting better treatment. But today even after 6 years the trauma center has not been started. Therefore, in case of an accident, the injured have to be referred to Varanasi, about 150 km away. Due to which many times patients die on the way.

There are 18 CHCs, 13 PHCs in 17 blocks of Ballia. About 66 PHCs were newly built. There are 205 posts of doctors in these hospitals. So far only 105 doctors are posted here. Due to shortage of doctors, patients are not able to get treatment at the right time.

After this we went to 2 medical colleges and understood the situation there.
Medical College 1: Patients running away in the middle of treatment due to monkeys in Agra Medical College
In Agra Medical College, more than 10 monkeys were present in 50 meters. Same is the case with the whole hospital. From emergency ward to OPD, patients everywhere are troubled by monkeys. Family members said, “Sometimes the terror of monkeys increases so much that one has to leave the treatment in the middle and run away. Monkeys take away medicines, even food items of patients.

It takes 1 to 2 hours to reach from emergency to normal ward.
The attendants said, “When the patient has to be shifted from emergency to normal ward, then the ambulance does not come on time for that. Sometimes the patient has to wait for 1 to 2 hours, which causes a lot of trouble to the patient.”

Somewhere in the Medical College of Agra, water is dripping from the ceiling, and somewhere monkeys are roaming in the ward.

Bed is not available, the patient has to lie in the verandah itself
Pregnant women are not able to get beds immediately in the hospital. That’s why they have to sit on the ground, sometimes on the chair of the verandah till they become a child. Due to which many times it affects the health of the woman and the child.

Kallu is Prajapati in the first picture. He has been lying in the hospital with the patient for two days but has not received treatment. In the second picture, the pregnant woman is lying on the seat in the verandah due to non-availability of beds.
