Odisha CM launches incubation centre to promote start-up ecosystem | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: To promote the start-up ecosystem in the state, chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday inaugurated O-hub, the incubation centre to support start-up formation and subsequent scale-up activated.
The hub, located within the special economic zone at Patia in Bhubaneswar, developed by the state micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) department, offers 1,50,000 square feet area with state-of-the art facility, plug-n-play infrastructure to support Start-up activities within the state.
“O-hub will be the first point to identify the best in the industry for co-creation and development of business with their new ideas and it will be a conglomerate for business houses and innovation. Now the innovators, mentors, corporate partners, ecosystem enablers and facilitators– all of them will work under one roof,” said Naveen, after inaugurating the hub.
The chief minister said that the initiative would provide a platform for innovators and entrepreneurs to develop products or services, establish formal businesses and interact with stakeholders of the ecosystem.
O-hub will facilitate 200 start-ups every year in diverse sectors like healthcare, renewable energy, information communication technology, artificial intelligence, machine learning, augmented reality/virtual reality, internet of things, handlooms and handicrafts, agri-tech and many more, said official sources.
While Odisha has unveiled its Start-up policy in 2016, so far it has helped to crate more than 1,200 Start-ups creating employment for over 10,000 people.
With facilities like O-hub, Naveen said he is confidence that the state will achieve the goal of 5,000 Start-ups by 2025. “O-hub will be a propellant to foster a spirit of entrepreneurship by providing end-to-end assistance to a start-up during their start up journey,” he added.
Naveen announced that the state has proposed in the new draft policy 2021 to reach out to the young minds in school by adding entrepreneurship as a part of the school curriculum.
“Narrative of Odisha is changing and progressing towards a new world of ideas, innovations and a budding entrepreneurial community. We are on a path of resurgent Odisha scripting new stories of success in all fields,” said the chief minister.
With Startup Odisha office stationed in O-hub, it will be a central place for incubators, accelerators and other major stakeholders. It will offer complete infrastructure support for high end fabrication labs, research and development facilities, amphitheatre among other facilities.
The state incubation hub aims to mobilize Start-up investments to the tune of Rs 100 crore per year through venture capitalists, angel networks, state and central government departments, agencies or PSUs.
