In a significant development, the Chief Minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced that there will be no board examinations for Class 10 students starting from the next academic year in 2024. The decision aligns with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP 2020). Instead, matric exams will be conducted solely at the school level. Furthermore, a new educational board will be established in Assam. It is important to note that the employees associated with the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA) will not face job losses due to these changes.
Previously, SEBA was responsible for Class 10 exams, while the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) conducted Class 12 board exams. However, the CM has announced that these two state boards will be merged into a single entity. The pass-and-fail system will remain in place for Class 10 students, but board examinations will only be conducted for Class 12. Moreover, students appearing in Class 10 will no longer be required to seek admission into Class 11, as the promotion process will be continuous.
This announcement coincided with the declaration of the Assam HS result 2023. This year, a total of 4,22,174 students appeared for the Class 10 exams, achieving a pass percentage of 72.69%.
Assam HS Result 2023 Announced
The Assam Higher Secondary Education Council (AHSEC) has declared the Assam Higher Secondary (HS) result 2023 today. The overall pass percentage for class 12 science students stands at 84.96% whereas 79.57% commerce students passed the exam this year. Arts stream students recorded a pass percentage of 70.12%.
Sankalpajit Saikia, a student of Ramanujan Senior Secondary School in Nagaon, has secured the top position in the Arts stream with a score of 490 marks. In the Science stream, Nikhilesh Dutta, a non-institutional private candidate, has emerged as the topper with a score of 484 marks.
Varsha Bothra from KC Das Commerce College in Kamrup (Metro) and Sukanya Kumar from Malayabari Senior Secondary School in Kamrup (Metro) have jointly secured the top position in the Commerce stream, both scoring 472 marks.
