Navjot Singh Sidhu reportedly wants the post of Punjab Congress chief.
Congress’ Punjab headache does not seem to end as Navjot Singh Sidhu has now reportedly sought the post of state party chief. According to party sources, Sidhu is aspiring for the post of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief. However, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh is not ready for this.
Sources said that Amarinder Singh is ready to induct Sidhu as the deputy CM, but the MLA from Amritsar East does not agree to the proposal. Sidhu, who is eyeing the post of PCC chief, is not keen on rejoining Singh’s cabinet, as he left it in 2019 following differences with the chief minister.
Meanwhile, the Punjab CM appeared before the Congress Committee on Tuesday and took strong objection to Sidhu’s recent remarks. Amarinder Singh told the AICC panel that the cricketer-turned-politician’s recent statements are adversely affecting the party. Sources said that both the committee and Rahul Gandhi are not happy with Sidhu’s statement that ‘two families are taking advantage in Punjab’.
Singh and Sidhu have been at loggerheads for quite some time now and have gone public against each other. The party leadership wants a united Congress before the assembly elections. There is also a possibility of a reorganization of the party and a possible cabinet reshuffle.

PCC chief Sunil Jakhar can also be replaced if the leadership feels that the state unit needs reform. A different role will also have to be carved for him.
The AICC panel, headed by Mallikarjun Kharge, and AICC general secretary-in-charge Harish Rawat and former MP JP Agarwal as members, has already submitted its report to the Congress president, suggesting that the election should be held under CM Singh’s charge. . And Sidhu can be suitably adjusted.
