Berhampur: One of the 19 wards of the Polasara Notified Area Council (NO) in Ganjam district will witness a battle between a father-son duo in the civic body elections to be held on March 24.
In ward no 2, Anil Kumar Sahu, 37, a BJD candidate, has locked horns with his father Duryodhan Sahu65, who is contesting on a BJP ticket, to become a ward councillor. The ward has over 1,000 voters. Another candidate, who had earlier filed nomination, has withdrawn his papers.
Duryodhan, a veteran politician and follower of former minister Ram Krushna Patnaikwon as councillor for five consecutive times, including four times from ward no 2, in the past. In the last election, his wife Soudamini was elected councillor from the same ward. She then became the NAC chairperson.
Soudamini had also filed nomination to contest as councillor on a BJP ticket from ward no 3, but withdrew it later.
On other hand Anil, a greenhorn in politics, aims to give a tough fight to his father. “Every citizen has the right to contest election. As the BJD selected me to contest from ward no. 2, I filed my nomination,” said Anil.
