Mouni Roy will soon be seen in the web series, Showtime, which is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8.

Mouni Roy began her acting career with the popular television show, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Over the years, she has forayed into films and music videos and has grabbed attention for her moves and glamorous avatar. Her Instagram account also bears a testament to her sartorial game with her vacation pictures often going viral and setting fashion goals. Currently, she’s awaiting the release of her next web series, Showtime, which is all set to release on Disney+ Hotstar on March 8.

Defying the stereotypes surrounding her, she made heads turn with her performance as an antagonist in Karan Johar and Ayan Mukerji’s Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva. In fact, at the trailer launch of Showtime held in Mumbai today, she exclusively told News18 Showsha that she felt stuck in a rut as a glam face and is currently on the path to change the industry and the audience’s perception about her. “If you ask me if I have been typecast, then yes, of course, I have. But I also have been very, very lucky with directors who had the vision to see me in different role and parts. Like Emraan Hashmi says, it may be a fair industry but I truly believe that it’s a very difficult industry,” said Mouni.

However, she believes that there’s no substitution to hard work and asserts that her choices and resilience will bring her success. “Along with hard work comes with a lot of challenges. There’s a struggle you cannot deny. There is no shortcut to hard work and success. I truly believe work begets work,” she told us.

She further added, “When you’re focused on a project be it dancing or an acting part, if you give your 100 percent and somehow get into the skin of the character, I think you will get taken seriously sooner or later. That’s been the only mantra of my life. If I am talking to someone, they have my 100 percent attention and the rest is confetti.”

Speaking to Karan, who has produced Showtime, Mouni also spoke about how she was never deterred despite being snubbed by makers and now she has no grudges against Bollywood. “A rumour that I would like I spread about myself is that I am doing your next directorial. The thing is I was told that I don’t have the talent to become a Bollywood actor.”

Showtime will also star Emraan, Mahima Makwana, Naseeruddin Shah, Rajeev Khandelwal and Shriya Saran. Talking about the show, Karan had shared, “Showtime is a series that is very close to my heart, it gives a closer look into the power struggles of the showbiz. The show will ensure that battle lines are drawn and crossed & keeps the camera rolling with the audience clapping. To tell a story so strong and powerful there could not have been a better partner than Disney+ Hotstar. We are extremely excited and eager to bring forth this one for the audience and hope they enjoy the series.”
