Gurgaon: A day after an 80-year old man was booked under POCSO for allegedly raping an 11-year old minor, he allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Bilaspur on Thursday. The police said that no note was recovered from the spot.
A police officer said Lal Singh was found hanging at his residence at 10.30 am. As per the police, Singh had lured the minor to his house by offering her sweets and then raped her. He later threatened to kill her if she revealed the crime to her family. The man was the minor’s neighbour. A complaint was filed by the girl’s mother, who is a labourer, following which an FIR was registered.
The minor’s mother told cops that this was not the first time when her daughter was raped by the man living in her neighbourhood.
The minor had revealed to her mother that the accused had sexually assaulted her a few times in the past as well but had threatened her to keep silent about it.
An FIR was registered under Section 6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of POCSO and Section 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC at Bilaspur police station.
