To understand Uday Chopra’s personality more closely, ‘Amar Ujala’ spoke to Sanjay Gadhvi, who directed Uday in the films ‘Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai’, ‘Dhoom’ and ‘Dhoom 2’. Sanjay says, ‘Uday Chopra is a very gentleman. I have never seen such a decent, innocent and calm person in my entire career. He behaved in such a manner on the sets that it never felt like he was Yashji’s son and Aditya Chopra’s brother. Completely devoted to work, has no arrogance of any kind and is ready to do any work on the sets if needed.

Sanjay Gadhvi created Uday Chopra’s character named Ali for the ‘Dhoom’ series, the story of creating his personality is also very interesting. It is a Mumbai Tapori-like character, somewhat similar to Anil Kapoor’s character in ‘Tezaab’ and Aamir Khan’s character in ‘Rangeela’. Sanjay explains, ‘Uday’s entire upbringing has been done with great sophistication. He would be able to adopt Tapori language and a deal doll like him, this was a big challenge for him. So one day I called one of my acquaintances Asif Bhai to Yash Raj Films office. Asif Bhai is quite famous around Bandra’s Gaiety, Galaxy Theatre. I left there on the pretext of making Asif sit with Uday. Both kept talking for an hour. By the time I came back, Uday had understood what I needed for his character.
