Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and Manmohan Singh cast their vote at the AICC headquarters, while Rahul Gandhi casts his vote in Bellary.

Voting for the post of Congress President ended simultaneously in the country at 4 pm on Monday. For the sixth time in the party’s 137-year history, and for the first time since 1998, votes were cast to elect a president.

Many veteran leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi and Ashok Gehlot, voted for the president’s post. 87 delegates cast their vote at the Congress headquarters. After voting, Sonia Gandhi said that the wait for the new president was long.

After the voting was over, election in-charge Madhusudan Mistry said that out of 9900, 9500 delegates cast their votes. That is, the total polling was 96%. Ballot boxes will come from all the states on October 18. They will be kept under tight security in the strong room set up at the AICC headquarters.

Counting of votes will take place on October 19. The ballot papers will be mixed before the start of the counting so that no one knows how many votes a candidate has got from a particular state.

Before voting, Shashi Tharoor did not get polling agents in many states including Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Punjab and Haryana. Congress then changed the rules and provided them with polling agents. According to the Congress constitution, only the delegates who cast their votes are the polling agents. Kharge vs Tharoor: 2 statements…

1. Shashi Tharoor- The workers will decide the fate of Congress. The era of change has begun in Congress. I have spoken to Kharge ji and wished him all the best. Whatever the outcome, we will remain allies.

2. Mallikarjun Kharge- It is part of our internal choice. Everything we said to each other was friendly. We have to form a party together. Tharoor called me and wished me well and I have also congratulated him.

67 booths set up at 36 polling stations
Congress’s Central Election Authority (CEA) said that 36 polling stations, 67 booths were set up in the election. Maximum 6 booths were made in UP. One booth was set up for every 200 delegates. 47 delegates, including Rahul Gandhi, who participated in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, cast their vote in Bellary, Karnataka. Here a separate booth was made at the camp of the Yatra.

The last time elections were held by voting in 1998
The last time voting was held for the post of President in Congress was in the year 1998. Then there was Jitendra Prasad in front of Sonia Gandhi. Sonia Gandhi got about 7,448 votes, but Jitendra Prasad was reduced to 94 votes. The Gandhi family never faced any challenge when Sonia Gandhi became the president.
