SILCHAR: A police officer was arrested in Patharkandi of Karimganj district on Friday after a video purportedly showing him taking bribe from a man surfaced on social media.
The accused Jitendra Prasad Singh is a sub-inspector of Patharkandi police station. A senior police officer in Karimganj said, “An accident had taken place on Patharkandi-Achimganj bypass road on October 16. Two cars were involved in the mishap and SI Jitendra Prasad Singh, while investigating the case, had allegedly demanded and taken Rs 7,000 from one of the vehicle owners. The vehicle owner while giving the money to Singh secretly recorded a video. The video has been making the rounds on social media for the past two days.”
