New Delhi: Nidhi, the key eyewitness in Kanjhawala hit and drag case, has been kept at a safe place under the surveillance of Delhi Police and she hasn’t returned home since Friday.

Delhi Police took Nidhi to the Sultanpuri police station to join the investigation on Friday. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Harendra Kumar Singh told news agency IANS, “She has been called by police to join the investigation.” He also clarified that she has not been detained or arrested as was being reported in a section of the media.

“There are reports that Nidhi has been arrested by police. It is hereby clarified that she has been called by police to join the investigation,” Singh said.

According to a report by news agency ANI, Nidhi was earlier allegedly arrested in a drug smuggling case in Agra.

As per the report, Nidhi was arrested in Agra in a Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, (1985) case as per an FIR registered in December 2020. She is currently out on bail.

According to the report, Nidhi had been intercepted and arrested on December 6, 2020, at the Agra railway station for bringing ganja (marijuana) by train from Telangana. She was then placed under arrest. Two boys named Sameer and Ravi were also arrested along with Nidhi.

However, speaking on the report, SP GRP, Agra on Saturday said that it is not yet confirmed whether the arrested person was Nidhi.

“In Dec 2020, 3 people were arrested during an operation against Ganja smugglers & 30 kg ganja was recovered. One of the accused was a person named Nidhi,a resident of Sultanpuri (Delhi). Not confirmed yet if this is the same person related to the Kanjhawala case,” the SP said.
