The Jharkhand High Court on Monday granted bail to All Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) president Sudesh Mahto and three other party leaders in connection with the alleged assault on policemen. Justice Anil Kumar Choudhary, while hearing the matter, said that the four people will have to pay ten thousand rupees each to the injured policemen. This is the condition of his bail.

In September last year, AJSU workers were mobilizing and agitating at Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi for OBC reservation. It is alleged that Sudesh Mahto, party MP Chandra Prakash Choudhary, leaders Lambodar Mahto and Ram Chandra Sahi instigated the supporters to surround the residence of Chief Minister Hemant Soren.

However, as the protesters moved towards the Chief Minister’s residence, the policemen asked them to back down. A clash broke out between the leaders and the policemen over this. Eight policemen were injured in the incident. In this case, charges were framed against the four leaders under IPC sections.

On the other hand, the counsel for the AJSU leaders said that their clients were implicated in a political conspiracy and none of them was guilty.
