Jharkhand: Government suspends IAS officer in sexual abuse case with IIT student, know the whole matter

Syed Riyaz Ahmed, an IAS officer from Jharkhand’s Khunti district, arrested for sexually assaulting an engineering student, has been suspended. He was accused by an IIT student of molesting and trying to kiss. The victim student was part of a group of students who came to do internship from IIT Mandi.

A statement has also been issued by the Chief Minister’s Office regarding the suspension of the IAS officer accused of sexual harassment. It has been said in this statement that ‘Chief Minister Hemant Soren has directed to suspend Syed Riyaz Ahmed, posted as SDM Khunti. The SDM was accused of sexual harassment.

It is worth mentioning that the student had accused Khunti SDM Syed Riaz Ahmed of sexual harassment. She had lodged a complaint with the women’s police station in Khunti. After which the SDM was taken into custody and interrogated. Syed Riaz Ahmed is a 2019 batch IAS officer.

Khunti SP Aman Kumar said that the complaint of the girl student was registered on the evening of July 4. In this, the IAS has been accused of sexual exploitation. According to the SP, everyone was partying on the night of July 1. Meanwhile, the SDM behaved wrongly. Tried to molest a girl student. The party was held at the residence of the Deputy Development Commissioner. That’s where this incident happened. The victim said that the IAS sexually assaulted her after finding her alone late at night.

The victim is a student of rural development at IIT Mandi. She has come with a group of eight students for a one-month internship in Khunti. She is doing internship in an NGO. The IAS was taken into custody on Monday night on the complaint of the girl student. After this the accused was arrested on Tuesday. A case has been registered against him under IPC section 354A (sexual harassment), section 509 (outraging the privacy of a woman by words, gestures) and other related sections. He was produced in the court on July 5, where the court sent the accused officer to judicial custody for 14 days.
