It’s The Character And The Story That Matters: Yami Gautam On Women-Centric Films

New Delhi: Yami Gautam Dhar ruled over the hearts of the masses by giving back-to-back promising performances in films like, ‘A Thursday’, ‘Dasvi’, and ‘Lost’. Be it the audience to critics, the actress collected loads of appreciation and great reviews. The way Yami has shouldered her strong roles single handedly and very efficiently, has proved her as one of the finest actors of the current time. She is indeed one actress of today’s generation who is a face of the changing demographics and dynamics of the entertainment industry, which she proved during the ABP Network Ideas Of India 2.0 while speaking on various topics from her films to her journey to her dynamic thoughts on women-centric films and the industry today.

During the Ideas Of India Summit, senior anchor and moderator of the session, Shobhna Yadav asked her, “Women-centric films have to be main, whether Gangubai in Alia Bhatt, Gehraiyaan in Deepika Padukone, Lost in aap ho – kya Bollywood badla hai, Yami ko aisa lag raha hai ya ab lag raha ki abhi aur need to change hey? (If we talk about women-centric films, whether it be Alia Bhatt in ‘Gangubai’, Deepika Padukone in ‘Gehraiyaan’ or you in ‘Lost’, do you think Bollywood has changed or there is scope for more change?)”

“Har generation apne saath ek change leke aata hai. Ki kitni awareness thi, jo female actors hai unka aap kis tarike se pradarshan kar rahe hain. Aur audience ko achi film se hi matlab hai (Every generation ushers in a new era. Mother India was made at a time when there was no conversation about this. Actresses like Smita Patil were there in that era. There was awareness about how to present the female actors. I think a lot of change is coming; there is awareness, and the industry is evolving. If better characters were written, there would be better performances too. Only a good film matters to the audience),” Yami said.

Having the audience’s hearts with her brilliant performances time and again, Yami will next be seen in ‘Dhoom Dhaam’ along with Prateek Gandhi, ‘Chor Nikal Ke Bhaga’ with Sunny Kaushal and ‘OMG 2’ with Akshay Kumar.
