India Logs 10,753 Covid Cases In Last 24 Hours, Active Tally At 53,720

India has reported 10,753 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours as the active caseload stood at 53,720 on Saturday morning, as per the Union Health Ministry. The toll has climbed to 5,31,091 with 27 deaths recorded in the last 24 hours. Six deaths were recorded in Delhi, followed by four in Maharashtra, three in Rajasthan and one each in Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. The figure also includes six deaths reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The daily positivity rate was recorded at 6.78 while the weekly positivity rate was pegged at 4.49. The total tally of Covid cases is at 4.48 crore (4,48,08,022).

The active cases now comprise 0.12 per cent of the total infections while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has been recorded at 98.69, according to the ministry website.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease rose to 4.42 crore (4,42,23,211) while the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19.

According to the ministry’s website, 220.66 crore vaccine doses have been administered under the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive so far.

India on Friday registered 11,109 daily Covid cases amid a spike in infections. The current surge in infections is being driven by XBB.1.16, a sub variant of Omicron. While Omicron and its sub-lineages continue to be the dominant variant in India, most of them have little or no significant transmissibility, disease severity or immune escape, officials said.A

As the country witnessed a surge in cases, mock drills were conducted across hospitals in Delhi to tackle the surge.

The mock drill conducted was part of a nationwide exercise to take stock of the hospitals’ preparedness to tackle the surge in Covid cases. Officials had already announced that both public and private facilities are expected to participate in the exercise conducted on April 10 and 11.

Meanwhile, health officials on Wednesday said that Covid-19 in India is moving towards the endemic stage and the infections may keep rising for the next 10-12 days after which they are likely to subside.
