Mumbai: India secured a commendable five-wicket consolation victory against England in the third and final WT20I on Sunday, thanks to stellar performances from spinners Saika Ishaque and Shreyanka Patil. Despite India’s win, England clinched the series 2-1.
Chasing a target of 127, Smriti Mandhana played a vital role with a run-a-ball 48, anchoring the Indian chase. However, it was Amanjot Kaur’s composed innings, including a streaky winning reverse sweep under pressure, that propelled the hosts past the target with an over to spare.
This victory marked India’s first win in the last five matches, securing their first home victory against England since March 2018. India had last beaten England in September 2022, and the win was a welcome turn of events after five straight defeats in the shortest format.

The game witnessed a crucial partnership between Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues, contributing 57 runs for the second wicket. Rodrigues chipped in with a valuable 29, but her dismissal led to the entrance of Harmanpreet Kaur, who faced an injury during the game.
With 11 runs needed off the last two overs, Amanjot Kaur stepped up, smashing two fours through cover and hitting the winning runs off Sophie Ecclestone with a boundary.
Earlier in the match, India’s rookie spinners Saika and Shreyanka showcased their prowess with three wickets each. England’s decision to bat first backfired initially as the visitors lost three wickets during powerplay and were reduced to 76/8 in the 15th over. However, England skipper Knight’s resilient innings of 52, supported by Charlie Dean’s 16, helped England post a competitive total of 126 all out.
India’s spin duo, Saika Ishaque (3/22) and Shreyanka Patil (3/19), played a pivotal role in restricting England’s innings. Despite the series loss, India’s performance in the final match displayed promising talent and determination.
