Two petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court to bring back the students trapped in Ukraine to India safely. Their hearing will be held today by a bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana, Justices Bopanna and Hema Kohli. On the petition, the Chief Justice said yesterday that should I ask Russia to stop the attack? At the same time, Attorney General KK Venugopal had told that India has sent four ministers to the countries bordering Ukraine to evacuate the students.

Senior advocate AM Dar had told the bench – the students from Odessa in Ukraine are on the Romanian border. The Indian government is operating flights from Hungary and Poland, but not from Romania. In such a situation, students are troubled in -7 degree temperature without money, water.

On this the CJI commented – should I ask Vladimir Putin to stop the war? what do you want? Dar replied that he wanted these students to be expelled. Then, the CJI said, “We have full sympathy with you but what can the court direct?”

When the Attorney General (AG) was asked by the CJI about the condition of these students, he said – Prime Minister has spoken to Russian President Putin and President of Ukraine Zelensky, Indians are being allowed to cross the border. He further told the court that the Indian government has sent a minister to Romania to ensure that the Indians there are taken care of.
