New Delhi: World Chocolate Day or International Chocolate Day is celebrated every year on July 7. It is believed that it celebrates the date when chocolate was introduced to Europe in 1550. World Chocolate Day was first celebrated in 2009, it is different from National Chocolate Day several countries celebrate.
According to historians, chocolate goes back beyond 2000 years, the word itself can be traced to the Aztec word ‘xocoatl’. The Mesoamerican (present-day Mexico) cultures consumed chocolate as beverages and considered it to be the ‘food of the gods’.
