A ground mounted solar power plant has been installed at Modhera village, 25 km away from Mehsana district. To generate electricity, solar panels and solar systems with a capacity of one kilowatt have been installed on the roof of every house in the village. All these solar systems are connected with Battery Energy Storage System (BESS).

60 to 100 percent saving in electricity bill
During the day, the village and its houses will be powered by solar panels, while in the evening, India’s first grid-connected MW or scale battery energy storage system will supply electricity to the households. For this, the Central and Gujarat government have invested more than Rs 80 crore in two phases in the solar development project. This project will make Modhera the first village in India to generate electricity from solar panels and will enable villagers to save 60-100 per cent on their electricity bills.
