Gujarat Giants Announce New Captain For Women’s Premier League 2024

Australia star women’s cricketer Beth Mooney will captain Gujarat Giants in the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL 2024), set to commence on February 23rd. India all-rounder Sneh Rana will serve as the vice-captain, forming part of the leadership group alongside Beth Mooney (captain), along with head coach Michael Klinger, and mentor and advisor Mithali Raj.

In her T20I career spanning 95 matches, Mooney has amassed 2764 runs, including two centuries and 22 fifties. Additionally, she has accumulated 375 runs in six Tests and 2326 runs in 71 ODIs.

“They (Mooney and Rana) will be part of the leadership group with head coach Michael Klinger, mentor and advisor Mithali Raj, and assistant coach Nooshin Al Khadee,” Gujarat Giants team said in a statement.

Beth Mooney was appointed as Gujarat Giants captain during the inaugural season of Women’s Premier League. Unfortunately, she sustained an injury after the first match, which forced her to withdraw from the entire tournament.

Gujarat Giants acquired Beth Mooney for Rs 2 crore during WPL auction. However, she could only feature in one match. Now, she has been entrusted with the leadership of the team once again, guiding the team to success.

Gujarat Giants’ performance last season was below expectations, with the team winning only two out of eight matches. Their overall performance placed them at the bottom of the points table with just 4 points.

With the acquisition of promising players in the WPL auction held last December, the team is eager to put its previous disappointing performance behind and stage a strong comeback in the upcoming season.

Gujarat Giants will kick off their campaign in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024 with a match against Mumbai Indians in Bengaluru on February 25th.

Gujarat Giants squad for WPL 2024: Beth Mooney, Ashley Gardner, Dayalan Hemlata, Harleen Deol, Laura Wolvaardt, Shabnam Shakeel, Sneh Rana, Tanuja Kanwar, Phoebe Litchfield, Meghna Singh, Trisha Poojita, Kashvi Gautam, Priya Mishra, Lee Tahuhu, Katherine Bryce, Mannat Kashyap, Veda Krishnamurthy and Tarannum Pathan.
