Goa: No Covid deaths for a week, 52 new cases on Wednesday | Goa News – Times of India

PANAJI: Goa reported 52 new infections on Wednesday and no Covid deaths. New infections have stayed under the 100-mark for two and a half months since October 1, while daily Covid deaths have been zero for more than a week. This is besides the 94 late deaths reported last week.
Active cases are at 391 and have been under 500 for more than 50 days.
The district positivity rate between December 8 and 11 is 1.9% for North Goa and 1.3% for South Goa, where 59% of the positive cases in North Goa and 69% of those found positive in South Goa were detected using the gold standard RT-PCR testing.
A total of 3,615 samples were tested on Wednesday as opposed to 1,396 on Monday and 2,886 on Tuesday.
One more person was hospitalised and 51 opted for home isolation. One person was discharged from hospital and 51 recovered over the past 24 hours.
New infections were seen in Aldona, Candolim, Chimbel, Siolim, Cansaulim, Pernem, Bicholim, Vasco, Porvorim, Mayem, Curchorem, Loutolim, Cortalim, Sanguem and Shiroda among other health centres.
Madkai and Cansarvanem continue to have zero active cases.
Another 2,407 persons took their second dose and 504 their first dose on Wednesday.
Goa currently has five Omicron suspects awaiting their genome sequencing test results from the National Centre for Cell Science (NCCS), Pune.
One of the suspects is from a cargo vessel whose results had to be retested while the other four arrived on flights from the UK, including a 13-year-old.
